Breitling Chronomat Ref. 769 – 18K Rose Gold – Original Black Dial – Venus 175

📽️ video available after the pictures

A truly exceptional vintage Breitling Chronomat, reference 769, dating from the early post-war period and featuring the highly sought-after combination of a solid 18K rose gold case and an original black dial.

The reference 769 Chronomat is one of Breitling’s most iconic early chronographs and is particularly distinguished by its rotating logarithmic slide-rule bezel. Introduced in the 1940s, the Chronomat was designed as a practical calculating instrument for engineers, scientists and other professionals, allowing calculations such as multiplication, division, percentages, speed, distance and fuel consumption directly from the wrist.

This example is especially attractive thanks to its original black dial, an uncommon and highly desirable configuration, combined with the warm rose-gold case and original gold-coloured hands.

CASE

Solid 18K rose gold case with the characteristic rotating slide-rule bezel. The case remains in beautiful original condition and shows no signs of heavy polishing.

The case is correctly signed with Breitling reference 769 and serial number.

The 2 pushers operate the chronograph functions: the upper pusher starts and stops the chronograph, while the lower pusher resets the chronograph registers to zero.

DIAL

Exceptional original two-tone black dial, preserved in very attractive condition with only minor signs of age.

The dial is signed “Breitling Chronomat” and “Swiss Made” and features the original painted numerals, golden hands and original red central chronograph seconds hand.

The 45-minute chronograph register is positioned at 3 o’clock, while the constant seconds register is located at 9 o’clock. The outer slide-rule scale rotates together with the bezel.

MOVEMENT

Powered by the highly regarded Swiss Venus 175 hand-wound column-wheel chronograph movement.

The movement is signed Breitling and Swiss and has been checked and is currently functioning well.

STRAP

Fitted with a brown leather strap in Breitling style.

DIMENSIONS

Case diameter: approx. 36.5 mm excluding crown

Length lug-to-lug: approx. 41 mm

Lug width: 18 mm

CONDITION

Very attractive original condition. The solid 18K rose-gold case remains crisp, with the original dial exceptionally well preserved.

An impressive and highly collectible example of one of Breitling’s most historically important vintage chronographs, particularly appealing for collectors looking for an original early Chronomat with precious-metal case and rare black dial.
