OLMA Vintage 1950s Oversized 38mm Chronograph – Landeron – Telemeter & Tachymeter

The pictures speak for themselves: an exceptional 1950s OLMA chronograph, featuring an impressive oversized 38 mm case, a highly unusual military-dial and an abundance of period detail.

The dial is particularly striking. It has a warm ivory/cream base with beautifully aged patina, large applied Arabic numerals and contrasting dark and gold-toned detailing. The dial combines a prominent telemeter scale around the perimeter with a tachymeter scale towards the centre, creating the characteristic technical appearance of 1950s scientific and military chronographs. The two recessed subsidiary registers provide the classic bi-compax layout, with the chronograph minute counter and running seconds.

The combination of the large numerals, multiple scales, period hands and beautifully aged dial gives this OLMA an exceptionally strong mid-century instrument-watch character. At approximately 38 mm, it was also a genuinely large watch for its period, giving it remarkable wrist presence even by today's standards. The goldplating is still thick and even, only toward the tips of the lug-ends it becomes a bit thinner. Overall appearance of the case is good to very good.

The watch is powered by a Swiss Landeron hand-wound chronograph movement in good working order. Keeps time and chronograph functions work.

The 1950s were an important period for OLMA, with the brand producing a particularly interesting range of functional and technically styled watches. Today, original OLMA chronographs from this era remain considerably less common than examples from the better-known Swiss manufacturers, making unusual oversized examples such as this particularly appealing to collectors.
