Pontiac Jumping Chronograph – Valjoux 7733 – Stainless Steel Case
A distinctive vintage Pontiac chronograph in very good overall condition, combining a sporty stainless steel case with a silver dial, contrasting blue sub-dials and a striking orange central chronograph hand.
The case retains its attractive brushed finish and presents very well, with signs of wear consistent with its age. The silver dial features applied luminous baton hour markers, luminous hands and two blue recessed sub-dials: a running seconds display at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The outer tachymeter scale and additional timing markings give the watch its unmistakable vintage motorsport character. The bright orange central chronograph hand provides a bold contrast against the dial.
The highlight is the unusual jumping chronograph mechanism. Unlike a conventional chronograph, where the central seconds hand sweeps continuously around the dial, this design is intended to produce a distinctive jumping action at the minute interval, advancing the chronograph minute indication as the elapsed time accumulates. It gives the watch a particularly engaging and technically interesting character.
The watch is powered by the Valjoux calibre 7733, a respected Swiss-made, manually wound chronograph movement widely used in sporting watches of the late 1960s and 1970s. Its robust cam-operated construction became a classic of vintage chronograph design.
The watch is fitted with a handsome Watchmania Corfam-style leather strap, chosen to complement its sporty period aesthetic.
A characterful and collectible Pontiac chronograph with a distinctive dial layout, an unusual jumping function and a classic Swiss mechanical movement.
